My thesis is up on my site as well as on Gamasutra. The full doc version is the only one that really got updated.

I really want to look at MDA two fold the more I think about it and narrative, and the way mechanics relate back to embedded / mechanical story. However, is distinguishment between authored rules, an instance of play, and the result of that instance work very well when talking about stages of story.

I've got a basic framework down, I just actually have to write it now.

I'm intrigued by your desire to "investigate the concept [of MDA-based thinking] in terms of narrative levels". You mentioned working on the concept of narrative levels in your thesis. Did your thesis ever get posted to a site somewhere?

Ever since Darius introduced me to MDA, just after this year's GDC, I've been interested in looking at games from various angles with the "filter", if you will, of MDA. It seems like we can have a lot of fun playing around with ways to model different aspects of games such as visual art, gameplay, and narrative in terms of MDA.

The best thing, at least in the short- and mid-run, that might come from all this MDA discussion is the improved communication between various thinkers about game-related topics. It's time we start integrating our ideas together -- or at least making our first attempts at it -- and seeing what comes out.
