Hey Bill! Glad you found my blog!

I would deffinately agree with that, which is something similar to the implied reader as character created in a book really. I impart some of myself on the "you" and become part of what the author describes. What I'm against is the belief that the character in a game *is* you. Even in an FPS this isn't true. In fact, I would say that it's easier to connect with an FPS if "you" are addressed as someone else (e.g. Master Chief or Gordon Freeman).

Actually that last point is a new one and may require another blog post ;).

Jeff, I think that you should read some of Jim Gee's work about the enmeshing of yourself with the character to create a hybrid character in a co-authored reality. You rightly claim that you are not as nimble as Sly Cooper, but with out your input, Sly does not manifest that nimbleness. Your act of picking up the controller and manipulating Sly is in fact creating a being with your intellect and puzzle solving skills enmeshed with Sly's master thieving abilities.
