The XML Way: The Talk

So, although they haven’t announced it yet, I’m sure requests for GDC talks will be coming soon, and I’m looking for possible talk proposals. One of the things I’ve thought about is doing a talk on XML, and the tools and technologies a lot of us probably overlook that make XML an excellent choice for certain aspects of game development and tool creation. I’m wondering if anyone thinks that would be an interesting talk. I’d probably go into some things I’ve talked about here (why use XML over other possibilities and where to use it) as well as some things I haven’t (the why and how of XSD’s, XSLT and XSLT 2) and some things I’d need to learn first (XQuery, for example).

Generally, I think it would be an interesting talk, but what do others think? Would you attend? Do you think you’d get anything out of it?

Personally, I’ve found YAML to be a great alternative to XML for everything I used to use XML for (mainly configuration files and easy data loading from flat-file, human readable sources). I’d be interested in hearing about both technologies being used effectively for actual applications.

Knowing GDC as I do now, though, there are usually so many great talks happening that it’s hard to say whether I’d choose and XML talk over others, but I’d definitely consider it.
